Only 23 skins and of the quagga are preserved, 9 of them in Germany (Bamberg, Berlin, Darmstadt, Frankfurt am Main, Mainz with 3 specimens, München, Wiesbaden). A remarkable overview is offered by Reinhold RAU.
The condition of the Wiesbaden Quagga is more or less acceptable. Shrinkage has caused the opening of seams and several cracks in the skin, especially of the right side. We hope that the mounted skin will be placed in a climatic chamber in the future. A first restoration started in 1997 and will be finished in the next years.
It is consodered that the skeleton at the British Museum (Natural History) belongs to this individual (after RAU).
